Twelve major ports capacity to double

The government has launched PM JalMargYojna to revive the shipping industry and will convert riverways into waterways. Two bills pertaining to prevention of marine pollution and welfare of seafarers have been passed. Dry and satellite ports would be set up. Transportation of cargo through Varanasi to Haldia has already been started. That said, the government aims to double the capacity of 12 major ports in the country.
