AAI has announced that it is constructing a new integrated terminal building at the Port Blair airport, which will be ready by mid-2021. As reported, more than 65 per cent of the project's work has been completed.
AAI is set to launch a greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh's Hollongi. The airport project is expected to be completed by 2022 and will be able to fit in narrow-body jets like the Airbus A321 in the first phase.
AAI is investing Rs.12.17 bn in the modernisation and expansion of Patna Airport, which once completed will have the capacity to handle 8 mn passengers per annum. Work on the project started last year, and is scheduled to be completed by March 2023.
The government plans to operationalise 26 new airports and award another 12 airports for development in the public private partnership (PPP) mode this fiscal year. Nine new airports have been operationalised in FY2019-20 and another 26 are to be operationalised in 2020-21. Besides, six airports have been awarded for development through PPP model and 12 more are to be taken up.
APM Terminals Pipavav’s board has approved a Rs.7-bn expansion plan, which includes upgrading existing facilities to handle bigger ships and increasing the container capacity to 1.6 mn 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Following CCI's approval of the acquisition of Krishnapatnam Port by the Adani Group, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has given its nod for the Rs.135.72 bn deal.
The land survey has been completed for 431.87.74 hectare out of 961.66.90 hectare identified and a preliminary notification issued for the construction of India's second rocket launch port in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district. The Government of Tamil Nadu has identified land in Kulasekarapattinam in Thoothukudi for setting up the launch port. One launch pad is proposed at the site at present. Survey work for the balance area is reportedly at an advanced stage.
VO Chidambaranar Port Trust (VOCPT) in Thoothukudi has invited industries to set up port-led units at the vast land base available with the Port Trust. Plots totalling 1,680 acre are available for lease on a long-term basis at a nominal lease rent for setting up the industries, according to an EoI issued by VOCPT.
The survey works for the longest tunnel road in Kerala, connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, commenced recently. The `6.58 bn project, which will be financed through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), will see the creation of a tunnel road with a length of around 7 km, which will provide an alternative to the Thamarassery Ghat Road.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has expedited the process of land acquisition for its flagship 91-km expressway project in Gorakhpur. The mega project spanning four districts is estimated to cost more than `58 bn and is expected to benefit a population of 50 mn by providing a fast connectivity for the movement of people and goods.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved funds of Rs.10.34 bn for repair and maintenance of two National Highways in Bihar. It has also issued orders for preparation of DPRs for five other projects.
Andhra Pradesh will have 26 newly developed and rebuilt National Highway roads on a 1,412-km stretch at a cost of Rs.155.92 bn. Some of the roads are in key cities like Visakhapatnam, which is going to emerge as the state’s executive capital, and Vijayawada.
Travel from central Tamil Nadu to Chennai along the East Coast Road (ECR) is set to get easier as highway expansion plans between Villupuram and Pondicherry have got clearance. NHAI had proposed to expand the 67-km stretch into a four-way bypass road with a 45 m to 60 m right of way (RoW) and grade separators at an estimated cost of Rs.18.76 bn. The project involves construction of 17 bridges, nine flyovers and one interchange.
The survey for the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh railway line has begun in Mandi and Kullu districts. A team of the Northern Railways will reportedly conduct the aerial survey of the proposed railway line. Railways has already completed the final survey of the railway line from Leh to Manali.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently dedicated the Kosi Rail Mega bridge to the nation and inaugurated rail projects such as a new railway bridge on the Kiul river, two new railway lines, five electrification projects, an electric locomotive shed at Barauni and a third line project between Barh-Bakhtiyarpur in poll-bound Bihar.
Southern Railway will have to electrify 1,400 route km of lines in three years as per the deadline set by the ministry. This will ensure smoother running of trains across all routes without changing locomotives from electric to diesel.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the 121.7-km Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project from Palwal to Sonipat via Sohna-Manesar-Kharkhauda, to be built at an estimated Rs.56.07 bn. This rail line will start from Palwal and end at Harsana Kalan station on the Delhi-Ambala section.

The lockdown has had adverse effects on the operations and business of JK Cement. The company reported a 62.25 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs.499.4 mn for the first quarter that ended in June 2020.
East Bengal has managed to get Shree Cement as its investor. The company is among the largest and most profitable cement majors in India. This investment is in line with its aim of achieving a robust pan-India presence.
According to a report by CARE, domestic cement production has fallen by 32.2 per cent during Q1 FY2021 (April-July) as compared to the 15 per cent and 2.6 per cent growth in production achieved during Q1 FY2019 (April-July) and Q1 FY2020 (April-July).

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has received proposals for 392 km of metro-rail from six states, with an estimated cost of Rs.1,278.25 bn. The proposals have been received from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, the remaining three corridors of Delhi Metro Phase-IV, and Jammu and Kashmir.
The Centre has invited tenders for new bullet train projects in the country. The Railways Ministry has directed the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) to prepare DPRs for seven high-speed rail corridors.
Terming InvIT as an attractive vehicle for mobilising funds for road infrastructure, the government is reportedly planning to construct over 50,000 km of highways. According to MoRTH, most of these will be four to six- lanes wide.

The construction of water aerodromes at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad for the seaplane project has begun. The project is being jointly executed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India and the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation (LDHCL), a JV of NHPC and the Government of Manipur, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Manipur State Power Distribution Company (MSPDCL) for the 66-MW Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Project located in Manipur.
India Grid Trust (IndiGrid) has completed the acquisition of the Gurugram Palwal Transmission (GPTL) poject from Sterlite Power at a value of Rs.10.80 bn.
NLC India is planning to invest over Rs.430 bn in various power and mining projects. The new projects will add 3,920 MW of power, including 1,000 MW of solar and 11.50 mtpa of mining capacity to the company.

The Nava Raipur Atal Nagar Smart City Corporation has invited bids for the installation of 2.9 MW of rooftop solar projects at various locations under the Capex model.
More than 25,000 smart and energy-efficient LED streetlights are to be installed in Karnal by the end of this year under the Smart Cities project. The amount being spent on this has not been officially disclosed yet, but as per reports it will amount to over Rs.300 mn.
Bihar’s Urban Development and Housing Department has approved several Patna Smart City projects, including construction of a cafeteria, ‘happy street’, foot-over-bridges, beautification of SK Memorial Hall and infrastructure development at schools.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority, will lay cycle tracks of 46 km in Khairtabad as part of the India Cycles 4 Challenge under the Smart Cities mission of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Eight cities in Uttar Pradesh have been identified for installation of e-charging facility for two, three and four wheelers. According to a recent proposal, the e-charging facilities under the smart city projects will be simultaneously launched in Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Bareilly and Jhansi.
