Environment min to tighten coal transportation norms

MoEF is planning to reduce the distance of carrying coal with more than 34 per cent ash content to the power plant from 1,000 km to 500 km from the pithead. The centre is also mulling on having coal washeries within 200-300 km of the pithead to reduce the cost of transportation of ashes and minimise the fly ash pollution threat in the plant site.
