Coal exports to neighbours reach 0.78 MT between Apr-Nov

During the April-November period of the current fiscal year, India's coal exports to neighboring countries amounted to 0.78 Million Tonnes (MT), as per information presented in Parliament.

The countries receiving coal exports from India in the region include Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

In response to a query in the Lok Sabha, Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi stated, "The country's coal exports for the last three years were 2.945 MT in 2020-21, 1.316 MT in 2021-22, 1.166 MT in 2022-23, and 0.78 MT in 2023-24 (up to November)." The majority of domestically produced coal is utilised within the country, with key sectors such as power, steel, cement, sponge-iron, and fertiliser being the major consumers.

Coal remains the primary source of commercial energy in India, constituting half of the nation's energy consumption. It continues to be the predominant fuel for power generation, owing to its reliability in comparison to other renewable energy sources.
