CFI seeks exemption of power infra projects from service tax, excise

The Construction Federation of India (CFI) in its representation to the Union Finance Ministry for Budget 2011-12 has sought a service tax exemption to infrastructure projects in the power sector, in tandem with the benefits available for projects in other infrastructure sectors such as roads, railways and airports. This would reduce the cost of power generation, as power producers are not entitled to credits on taxes paid on procurements. CFI has also sought exemption of excise duty on all excisable goods supplied for setting up of power projects.
