Essar to build eight coal-fired power plants

Essar Energy plans to spend up to about $6 bn to build eight coal-fired power stations to add tens of millions of tonne of carbon to the atmosphere. The company just brought online the first part of the 1,200 MW Salaya plant in Gujarat and mentions the other stations’ need to counter power shortages.
