First unit of hydel project inaugurated

After much delay, the first unit of the 126 MW Myntdu-Leshka hydel power project in Meghalaya was inaugurated recently. This unit may ease the power shortage in the state and is likely to generate about 42 MW. The Rs 300 crore Myntdu Leshka project initiated way back in the 1970s, was constructed in 2004 and completed last year with a final cost of over Rs 1,000 crore. The state chief minister has asked Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd officials to prepare for the launch of the second unit, contributing another 42 MW into the state's power grid.
