The share of the private sector investment in new capacity additions has increased from
9.1 per cent in the Tenth Plan to 41.9 per cent in the Eleventh Plan. According to extant policy, FDI up to 100 per cent is permitted in the power sector, under the automatic route for
generation, transmission and distribution.
