Bihar Expands Clean Energy Push To Attract Investors

Bihar's power minister invited national and global investors to partner in the state's economic and energy expansion, offering administrative support and an enabling environment. He addressed the inaugural session of Bharat Electricity 2026 on the theme Energy Sovereignty for a Climate-Resilient Viksit Bharat and inaugurated the Bihar Power Pavilion. The pavilion highlighted the state's strides in clean energy, storage systems and digital grid transformation.

The minister said the state had installed over nine point four million (mn) smart prepaid meters, contributing to a fall in aggregate technical and commercial losses from around 60 per cent to 11.54 per cent. He reported that Bihar had recently met a record peak demand of 9,475 megawatt (MW) and that projections were expected to touch 19,033 MW by fiscal year 2037. Officials credited the modernisation drive with improved supply reliability and data driven distribution management.

The minister set out a scheme to provide free one point one kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar systems to zero point two five million (mn) below poverty line families in the coming months. Key projects on display included a 1,200 MW pumped storage plant at Nawada, major solar plus storage installations planned for Lakhisarai and initial discussions on nuclear energy options. The pavilion also showcased storage technologies and digital solutions intended to support integration of renewables.

He encouraged investors to engage as partners to pursue energy sovereignty for consumers and emphasised the need for climate resilient infrastructure able to withstand floods and storms. Senior officials who attended included the Delhi power minister and the chairman of the Central Electricity Authority. The state said it would offer facilitation and policy support to accelerate private investment and deployment of resilient systems.

Coal India Production Falls in August as Supplies Rise

Coal India Limited's production declined five point seven per cent year-on-year in August 2026, while coal supplies rose five point five per cent during the month.
