Tata Power, Imperial College London Sign Energy Systems MoU

Tata Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Imperial College London to explore collaboration in research, technology and knowledge exchange across key areas of the energy transition. The partnership will focus on grid flexibility, energy storage, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in energy, and advanced energy systems.

The collaboration will combine Tata Power’s experience in developing and operating energy infrastructure at scale with Imperial College London’s research capabilities in digital technologies, engineering, energy systems and decarbonisation. The partners intend to support the development and demonstration of solutions for more flexible, resilient and lower-carbon energy networks.

The agreement comes as India and the UK strengthen cooperation on clean energy and climate action. Under the India-UK Vision 2035, the countries have identified energy storage and grid transformation as areas for expanded cooperation, alongside joint work on artificial intelligence, renewables, hydrogen and carbon capture.

The Vision also identifies the Net Zero Innovation Partnership as a mechanism for supporting deep-tech solutions and developing new markets for climate innovation. Tata Power said the collaboration would help address practical industry challenges and examine solutions relevant to India’s energy transition and the wider global shift towards cleaner energy.

The partnership will draw on Tata Power’s operations across power generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy. Imperial College London will contribute expertise spanning science, engineering, business, economics, digital technologies and decarbonisation, with an emphasis on research that crosses traditional academic disciplines. The collaboration is also expected to create opportunities for knowledge exchange and innovation between India and the UK.
