The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) passed the proposal to replace around 59,000 high-pressure sodium vapour lights installed on the 1,440 km of arterial city roads with energyefficient, smart LED lights. These are currently being maintained by the Public Works Department (PWD). While ownership of roads bigger than 60 feet is vested with the MCD, their maintenance is the responsibility of the PWD, which has installed conventional, high-pressure sodium vapour lights for illuminating roads.
