Under the guidance of its Managing Director NVS Reddy, Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMRL) has created a new world record by constructing a metro pillar a day (on an average) – taking the number to 2,599 pillars for the 66-km metro-rail project in 2,599 days. With this, all the pillars for Phase-I of the project have been completed, except for the 6-km stretch in Old City. Depending on the technical requirement and locational constraints, different shapes are known to have been adopted for the construction of the pillars. Known for building many public assets and amenities in over 33 years of his managerial and administrative experience, Reddy has led yet another milestone in India’s metro construction story – this time, setting a world record.
