As India accelerates investments in transport, urban infrastructure and industrial development, construction methodologies are undergoing a fundamental shift. Precast concrete, once viewed as a niche solution, is emerging as a key enabler of faster, more efficient and sustainable project execution. In this conversation with CW, Sandeep H Vanvari, Managing Director, discusses how Siddhivinayak Precast is contributing to landmark infrastructure projects, the industry's evolving mindset, and why industrialised construction will shape the next decade of India's growth.Siddhivinayak Precast has been associated with several landmark infrastructure projects. How has the company's journey evolved over the years?We started with a simple objective: to manufacture high-quality precast concrete products that solve real infrastructure challenges. Over the years, that commitment has enabled us to participate in some of India's most significant projects, including the Mumbai Coastal Road, Pune Metro, the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor and the Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Each project has presented unique engineering challenges, helping us strengthen our manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise. More important, they have reinforced our belief that precast construction has a vital role to play in India's infrastructure development. We see ourselves not merely as a manufacturer but as a partner in the country's nation-building journey.India's infrastructure pipeline continues to expand rapidly. What role do you see precast construction playing in this transformation?The future belongs to precast. Construction has always evolved with technology. Decades ago, concrete was mixed manually onsite before ready-mix concrete transformed the industry. I believe precast represents the next major evolution.Infrastructure projects today demand speed, consistency and quality. Manufacturing components in a factory-controlled environment ensures uniform quality while significantly reducing dependence on weather and onsite labour. At a time when labour shortages are becoming increasingly common, industrialised construction offers a practical and scalable solution.The biggest advantage is predictability. Since manufacturing and site preparation happen simultaneously, project execution becomes significantly faster without compromising quality.Despite these advantages, precast adoption remains limited in India. What is holding the industry back?Technology is not the challenge; awareness is. Many stakeholders continue to perceive precast as an alternative rather than an integral part of project planning. Every project has different engineering requirements, so precast cannot replace every construction activity. However, wherever standardisation, speed and quality are priorities, it delivers clear advantages.Large EPC contractors understand this because they appreciate the value of time and lifecycle performance. The next step is creating greater awareness among consultants, designers and mid-sized contractors so that precast is considered at the design stage rather than after construction has begun.Innovation and quality appear to be central to your operations. How do you ensure continuous improvement?R&D is a continuous process. Customer requirements are constantly evolving, and unless we understand their challenges, we cannot develop solutions that add value. One of our biggest strengths is our inhouse NABL-accredited laboratory, which enables us to maintain stringent quality standards and continuously test and improve our products. Innovation is not limited to developing new products; it is equally about refining manufacturing processes, improving durability and delivering consistent performance across every project. Recognition such as the CIDC Vishwakarma Award is encouraging, but it also motivates us to continue raising the benchmark for quality and engineering excellence.Sustainability is becoming a defining parameter for infrastructure projects. How is Siddhivinayak Precast addressing this priority?Sustainability must be viewed across the entire lifecycle of infrastructure. Our focus is on manufacturing products that last longer, require minimal maintenance and reduce environmental impact over their service life. We have incorporated supplementary cementitious materials such as GGBS into our manufacturing processes and are also exploring advanced materials, including graphene-based additives, to improve durability and reduce carbon intensity. Alongside this, initiatives such as water conservation and regular plantation drives remain part of our broader sustainability commitment. Ultimately, infrastructure that performs better for decades is itself a sustainable solution.Which sectors do you believe will drive the next phase of growth for precast construction?Metro rail, railways, highways, ports and urban infrastructure offer tremendous opportunities. As projects become larger and timelines become tighter, industrialised construction will become increasingly important. We are already seeing encouraging developments. Government agencies are recognising the value of precast in improving quality and accelerating execution. As this awareness grows, adoption will naturally increase across infrastructure sectors.What policy interventions would further accelerate the adoption of precast construction in India?Policy has an important role to play. Wherever precast offers technical and economic advantages, project specifications should actively encourage its use. Once consultants begin designing projects with precast in mind and tender documents clearly define where industrialised construction should be adopted, contractors will naturally follow. Standardisation, better planning and wider awareness will help the industry move beyond conventional construction practices. India's infrastructure ambitions require faster delivery, higher quality and greater efficiency. Precast construction can contribute significantly towards achieving all three.Looking ahead, what is your vision for Siddhivinayak Precast and the Indian precast industry?India is entering one of the most exciting phases of infrastructure development in its history. Delivering projects of this scale will require new ways of thinking and new methods of construction. Our vision is to continue contributing to nation-building by developing innovative precast solutions that improve quality, speed and sustainability. We also intend to expand our manufacturing footprint in line with market demand so that we can serve more regions efficiently. I firmly believe industrialised construction will become the backbone of India's infrastructure ecosystem over the next decade.
