Following multiple complaints by Ponda-resident Nikhil Desai to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the state government has finally given its approval to the Public Works Department (PWD) to remove all speed breakers and rumblers from national highway stretches in Goa. Desai, a businessman, was deeply pained to see patients being transported in rickety ambulances from his hometown Ponda with the suffering made worse by illegal speed breakers. He took objection to speed breakers placed on NH-748, which is the Belagavi-Panaji highway, and the NH-566 from Farmagudi to Bambolim. When complaints to the ministry went unnoticed, he wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on August 15 last year.  Contact: Ministry of Road Transport and HighwaysWebsite: www.morth.nic.in
