There are hardly any takers for cycling tracks in the city. The one on the Kanaklata Path which connects Dakhingaon and Saukuchi and the other in the Jaya Nagar area which is 100 metres in length, are lying underutilised. The project which was carried out as an experiment by the PWD, has currently been shelved. Arshel Akhtar, the cycling mayor of Guwahati, said that in other metropolitan states like Bengaluru or Hyderabad, cycling tracks are much more advanced and longer. Though these stretches were meant to serve as cycling tracks it was found that more two and four-wheelers were using those. There was no traffic survey while making this track and the main challenge is lack of free space on the existing road.
