Rising wave of homebuyers looking for green, pollution-free homes

A fast growing trend among today’s homebuyers is green homes. Last year witnessed a growth in the number of people interested in buying homes as well as those keen on buying green homes. According to a recent study, about 10 per cent of prospective homebuyers are also enquring if the project offers green homes.

Seeing a surge of interest for environment conscious homes, several developers are looking to fulfill the green home demands of their buyers. Mumbai-based developer PPROM is developing sustainable housing in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. The ongoing Dapoli project called Janak Jambha Nagari has also received certification from IGBC. The developer has reportedly used eco-friendly materials and processes in construction of this project such as recycling and use of energy saving techniques.

A ‘green’ home is one which is water and energy efficient, judicially uses natural resources and has good waste management. Earlier, such projects were aimed at retired people who would want to live in a pollution-free environment, but in recent years, even working class people are seeking such housing as weekend getaways from their busy schedule and everyday routine.
