After scrapping its plans to build a satellite port at Betul, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has now turned to Vijaydurg in Maharashtra, where it will construct a greenfield port to cater to container, crude oil, fertiliser, and limestone cargo. The Vijaydurg port will be developed in collaboration with Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port on the western bank of the Vagotan river, around 200 km from Vasco. Efforts are on to get the environment impact assessment done, so that the required environmental clearances can be obtained.
