CII-IGBC Green Synergy Focuses on Climate-Resilient Development

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised the second edition of Green Synergy Noida 2026, focusing on climate resilience, water security, high-performance buildings and low-carbon construction.

Held under the theme ‘Future-Ready Built Environment: Client Risk, Resilience & Business Value’, the event brought together representatives from government, real estate, infrastructure, industry and the sustainability sector to discuss the growing impact of climate risks and resource constraints on the built environment.

According to CII-IGBC, India currently has 20,012 registered green building projects covering more than 16.33 billion sq ft under its 33 Green and Net Zero rating systems. These include around 41 lakh residential dwelling units, over 11,770 commercial projects, 1,320 transit infrastructure projects, 985 industrial buildings and 271 Net Zero projects.

The discussions focused on integrating climate resilience and resource efficiency into the planning, design, construction and operation of buildings and infrastructure.

K D Singh, Chairman of the IGBC Noida Chapter and Managing Director of Aircon Engineers, said climate resilience was becoming increasingly important for the future of cities and the built environment.

Nikhil Hawelia, Co-Chairman of the IGBC Noida Chapter and Managing Director of Hawelia Group, said the real estate sector needed to move beyond green building certification towards improving the resilience of assets against climate risks, water stress and extreme weather events.

The inaugural session examined the role of climate resilience in urban development and real estate growth in Western Uttar Pradesh. Industry representatives discussed the need to incorporate sustainability and resilience across the development cycle.

A leadership panel on climate risk, water security and asset value examined how environmental risks are influencing investment decisions, urban planning and long-term real estate performance. The panel included representatives from the real estate, infrastructure, aviation and investment sectors.

A technical session on designing buildings for climate stress featured discussions on next-generation glass technology, reflective materials for net-zero buildings and smart rainwater management systems.

The programme also included a stakeholder consultation on accelerating the adoption of low-carbon cement in India's built environment. Participants examined its applications, life-cycle performance, market potential and barriers to wider adoption.

The concluding discussions focused on technical, economic, regulatory, market and procurement challenges associated with low-carbon construction materials.

The event highlighted the role of government-industry collaboration in improving climate resilience, strengthening water security and accelerating the adoption of low-carbon construction practices across NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh.
