India's Rental Search Market Holds Rs 7.53 Tn Potential

India’s residential rental search market is estimated to have an annual demand potential of Rs 7.53 trillion in 2026, according to the latest Rental Index by Magicbricks. The market recorded a CAGR of 2.4 per cent between 2024 and 2026, indicating sustained growth in rental search activity.

The report shows that rental demand and rental values are moving differently across cities. Greater Noida, for instance, recorded a 32.5 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) increase in rental demand, while rents declined by 1.6 per cent QoQ.

The growing scale of rental searches also reflects the increasing role of digital platforms in the rental discovery process. Tenants are evaluating homes based on factors such as location, budget, configuration and furnishing, providing greater visibility into available options before making rental decisions.

Rental trends across major cities remain varied, with local supply conditions and tenant demand influencing rental values differently. This city-specific pattern highlights variations within India’s broader rental housing landscape.

The findings indicate that the rental market is expanding in scale while becoming increasingly differentiated across geographies. As more tenants search, compare and evaluate homes online, rental search behaviour is emerging as an indicator of changing housing-market dynamics.
