Residents Seek LG Intervention over Stalled Srinagar Road Project

Residents of the Kathi Darwaza-Saidakadal area in Srinagar have appealed to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the stalled widening of the Dalgate-Hazratbal road via Rainawari. They said the suspension of work had left them unable to repair or renovate their ageing homes, which fall within the alignment of the pending section.

In a representation submitted to the Lieutenant Governor, the residents said the Meerak-Shah Road Widening Project was initiated more than a decade ago. According to the representation, the stretch up to Rainawari is almost complete, while the remaining portion has been suspended for the past three years.

The residents said their houses were very old and that they had not been permitted either to repair them or undertake renovation. They said the restrictions had forced families to live in inadequate accommodation, adding that the uncertainty had continued because the project had not progressed.

They requested the Lieutenant Governor to examine the matter personally and direct the authorities to resume execution of the remaining road section. Alternatively, they sought permission to rebuild or renovate their damaged houses so that families could improve their living conditions while the project remained unresolved.

The residents described the road as important because it connects areas leading to the Hazratbal Shrine, the University of Kashmir and NIT. They also highlighted its relevance for tourism and sought early completion of the widening work, saying this would enable them to make further arrangements for their rehabilitation. The representation was signed by Noor Mohammad Bhat, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, Begum Ameena Bano, Ishrat Zahoor, Shabnum Farooq and Ruksana Manzoor.
