Holiday Inn Express starts 173-room hotel in A'bad

With the opening of its first property in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, Holiday Inn Express was launched in India on November 20. Ahmedabad is 30 kms from the Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat. The 173-room property answers the growing demand for rooms for smart travellers across business and leisure category.

The hotel and a further 18 properties under the same brand are being developed through a JV partnership between Duet India Hotels (DIH) and InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG). The former has 76 per cent stake while the later has a 24 per cent equity stake in the JV.

Ahmedabad has seen 10 per cent y-o-y growth of business travellers, trigerred by the boom in automotive and pharmaceutical businesses in the region, that would create a demand for business hotels in the city, remarked Pascal Gauvin, IHG COO (India, Middle East and Africa). IHG aspires to have 150 hotels under the brand by 2020, he said.

Naveen Jain, DIH president said there is a gap for quality mid-market hotels across India and fulfiling growing demands of these guests would be his business focus. A capital of Rs 250 crore would be invested in near future to open a chain of hotels under the brand.
