Tamil Nadu govt takes steps to boost infra projects

In order to facilitate speedy implementation of industrial and infrastructure projects, the Tamil Nadu government decided to set up Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Programme (TNIPP).

Specifically, the programme is intended to address bottlenecks faced by the investors, mainly by policy changes and correcting infrastructural inadequacies.

The programme is expected to facilitate investment flow of around Rs 770 crore for investment in small and medium infrastructure projects over three years.

The programme would be set up with the assistance of Japan International Co-operation Agency and it would commence operations during the current year.

Further, the state government decided to develop Madurai-Tuticorin Industrial Corridor and create shipbuilding yard and land bank.

The state government, in its budget 2013-14, allocated Rs 2,000 crore for the Infrastructure Development Fund and Rs 200 crore for the Project Preparation Fund was provided in the Budget Estimates 2013-14.

State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu would create a land bank of 25,000 acre to attract more industries, said the state Finance Minister O Panneerselvam.

The state government also decided to set up a new ship building yard in Tuticorin through the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation under public-private partnership mode.
