The National Aluminium Company aims to commence work on expansion of its alumina refinery at Damanjodi in February 2017. The company will add the fifth unit of 1 mn tonne incremental capacity to the refinery whose present capacity is 2.275 mn tonne a year. It is sourcing bauxite from its captive Panchpatmalli mines to feed the refinery installed at the foothills. The present mining capacity of Panchpatmalli mines is 6.8 mtpa and Nalco is targeting alumina production of 2.1 mtpa this fiscal.
