Amit Shah Inspects BSF Outpost And Unveils Smart Border Plan

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inspected the Border Security Force Lankamura Border Outpost in Tripura and interacted with personnel to boost morale. On World Environment Day he planted an agarwood sapling in Agartala as part of a plantation drive attended by several senior officials. The visit included e-inauguration of personnel accommodation at the 37th Battalion and laying of the Quarter Guard foundation at the 97th Battalion.

He said that since 2019 Central Armed Police Forces have planted 75 million (mn) trees and that this year four mn to six mn saplings will be planted with non-survivors replaced. He stated that CAPF personnel will plant 20 mn trees next year and that soldiers are encouraged to nurture each sapling as a family member. The minister framed tree planting as a habitual practice that supports environmental protection and national service.

He outlined a smart borders initiative under a quadrilateral security strategy integrating local administration, police and village officials with technology. A pilot will run at seven or eight locations to test drones, sensors and smart fencing before scaling up. He reported approval for 119 km of new modern fencing to replace part of about 650 km of older fencing and highlighted completed work to provide electricity, green energy and safe drinking water at outposts.

He stressed the strategic importance of the Tripura frontier and linked border modernisation to the goal of national security and development by 2047. He described the construction of a leak proof security grid that draws on district magistrates, police, patwaris and sarpanches alongside CAPF personnel. He noted that the Home Affairs ministry and associated forces planted more than 0.5 mn saplings on the day as part of the drive. The minister said the pilot outcomes will guide nationwide rollout of the smart border model.
