Andhra Received Rs 3 Tn Investments and Aid in 6 Months: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Andhra Pradesh faced challenges due to man-made disasters between 2019 and 2024. He mentioned that the Centre facilitated investments and aid exceeding Rs 3 trillion for the state in the past six months.

He praised Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for his leadership in advancing the state through effective administrative, financial, and developmental strategies. Shah noted that Prime Minister Modi ensured all possible support for the state. The Minister made these remarks during the 20th Raising Day ceremony of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Vijayawada.

Shah also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several projects worth around Rs 2.20 billion, including the National South Campus of the Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the 10th Battalion of the NDRF, and the Regional Response Centre at Supaul Campus. Additionally, he virtually laid the foundation stone for a new 'Integrated Shooting Range' at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad and inaugurated the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Tirupati.

The Home Minister explained that when natural disasters occur, the NDRF comes to the rescue, while the Narendra Modi government assists in the case of man-made calamities. He referred to the YSR Congress Party rule between 2019 and 2024, during which Andhra Pradesh suffered setbacks due to man-made disasters that hindered the state’s potential.

He added that to compensate for the developmental losses, Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Naidu were pushing for Andhra Pradesh's growth at three times the previous pace. Shah also highlighted the recent Union Cabinet approval of Rs 110 billion for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, aimed at ensuring the plant’s long-term viability and preserving its significance for the state.

Shah claimed that in the past six months, PM Modi had accelerated efforts to realise Chandrababu Naidu's vision of Amaravati as the state capital, allocating Rs 270 billion through HUDCO and the World Bank. He emphasised the laying of the foundation stone for a new railway zone and the anticipated completion of the Polavaram project by 2028, which would ensure that water reaches every corner of Andhra Pradesh.

Additionally, the Home Minister spoke about the commencement of the AIIMS hospital project at a cost of Rs 16 billion and shared plans to invest Rs 2 trillion to turn Visakhapatnam into a hub for green hydrogen. He also noted that highway and infrastructure projects worth around Rs 1.2 trillion had been approved for the state.

Shah pointed out significant advancements in disaster management, particularly through the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), over the last decade. He highlighted the importance of seamless coordination between various organizations to ensure effective disaster management on the ground.
