Covestro and EMPTECH Partner on High-Security ID Documents

"Covestro, a leading high-performance polymer manufacturer, and EMPTECH, a secure ID document system integrator, have signed an MoU to jointly develop high-security ID document solutions for China and emerging markets. The partnership integrates Covestro’s speciality films with EMPTECH’s personalisation equipment and system expertise to meet growing security and innovation demands.

Secure document personalisation—embedding personal data into passports, national ID cards, and driver’s licences—requires precise alignment between material properties and equipment performance. Covestro will contribute its polycarbonate films and functional materials expertise, while EMPTECH provides system integration and ID equipment know-how, addressing technical requirements in dynamic markets.

Dr. Caroline Wolff, Head of Specialty Films Asia-Pacific at Covestro, said, “By combining our strengths in technology, materials, and innovation, we are well positioned to deliver proven, effective solutions to this dynamic market and provide higher value to our customers.”

Sean Zheng, CEO of EMPTECH, added, “Material performance is critical for secure documents. This partnership strengthens our technical capabilities and competitiveness in emerging markets.”

EMPTECH, listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE: 300546), delivers secure identity solutions globally, including national ID, passports, digital elections, smart banking, and intelligent transport systems. With operations in over 60 countries, the company leverages AI, biometrics, RFID, and cloud-to-device platforms to provide scalable, secure identity infrastructure."
