Delhi Adds 13 AQI Stations and 150 Electric Buses

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed pollution control measures at the Delhi Pollution Control Committee’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on Tuesday. They also virtually inaugurated 13 air quality monitoring stations, 150 electric buses and four high-capacity charging stations in the national Capital.

Yadav highlighted the Delhi Government’s 11-point action plan and said coordinated work by multiple agencies had improved air quality at Anand Vihar, a major pollution hotspot. The launch of the new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) expanded Delhi’s network to 60 stations from 47, with real-time data available through the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) server and the SAMEER mobile application.

The stations will track pollutants including PM2.5 and PM10. Yadav said the Air Quality Index at Anand Vihar fell from 430 on 30 August to 92, attributing the improvement to coordinated action by the Government, traffic police, public works department and other agencies addressing congestion, bus movement and roadside dust.

Gupta said cleaner public transport and stronger supporting infrastructure were central to tackling Delhi’s pollution. The Government has increased its electric and compressed natural gas bus fleet to more than 6,000, while five public electric vehicle charging stations have been commissioned at Anand Vihar, Nand Nagri, Rohini Sector 37, Nangloi and Keshopur depot for private vehicles and buses.

The new buses took Delhi’s electric bus fleet to around 5,238, while the total bus fleet reached approximately 6,988. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the AI-based ICCC was monitoring more than 700 construction sites, road sweepers, air quality stations, Vayu Rakshak teams and open waste burning in real time. Yadav said the Centre, Delhi Government and CPCB would continue monitoring pollution hotspots, while Transport Minister Pankaj Singh urged residents to adopt electric vehicles and use incentives under the Government’s EV policy. Yadav and Gupta also criticised Opposition protests over the Election Commission’s electoral-roll revision process, alleging political motives behind the objections.
