GSFC Seeks JV Partner for 500,000 Tpy Green Ammonia Project

Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals (GSFC), a Gujarat government-promoted fertiliser and chemicals manufacturer, has invited expressions of interest from qualified national and international companies, consortiums and investors to form a joint venture for a 500,000 tpy green ammonia facility at its Sikka Unit in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The project is intended to serve domestic industrial demand and export markets.

The proposed development will use Sikka’s existing coastal industrial infrastructure. The site has a captive jetty, 30,000 t of refrigerated ammonia storage, an established pipeline network extending 8 to 10 km between storage and plant facilities, and pre-permitted land for expansion. The jetty can handle vessels of up to 33,000 DWT and has a draft of 10.5 m.

GSFC said the brownfield site and its ammonia-handling capabilities could reduce the time and capital required compared with a new development. The company has decades of experience in ammonia storage, transfer, synthesis and logistics, supported by an existing workforce and operating platform at the Sikka Shore Terminal.

The company is seeking a partner that can provide capital, electrolyser and ammonia-synthesis technology, project-development expertise and offtake connections with green ammonia buyers in Europe, Japan and South Korea. GSFC also identified India’s renewable-energy resources and policy support as advantages for the project.

The facility could qualify for viability-gap funding under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition programme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. GSFC also expects European demand for certified green ammonia to benefit from the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. The company said its Board-reviewed transformation programme for 2025-26 has identified green ammonia production at Sikka as a strategic priority, with capacity targeted at 500,000 tpy or more.
