Lucknow To Get 150-Metre London Eye Inspired Wheel

Lucknow Development Authority plans to develop the Lucknow Eye and Adventure City, a Rs 27.5 billion (bn) tourism project on the banks of the Gomti river under a public-private partnership model. The project will feature the Lucknow Eye, a 150-metre-tall observation wheel modelled on the London Eye, which the authority says will be the largest in the country. LDA vice chairman Prathmesh Kumar said the attraction would offer aerial views of the City of Nawabs.

Adventure City will include a theme park, adventure rides, water sports facilities and family entertainment attractions centred on the observation wheel. The authority described the development as India's first global tourist attraction of its kind and intends it to position Lucknow as a major tourism and recreation destination beyond its role as Uttar Pradesh's capital. The plan reflects an integrated approach to leisure, hospitality and transport demand.

The LDA expects the project to attract more visitors, supporting demand for hotels, transport, trade and other local businesses and generating employment through increased tourism and related economic activity. Officials anticipate that associated investment and visitor spending will stimulate small and medium enterprises, create direct and indirect jobs and broaden the local service economy. The authority has proposed the scheme under a PPP framework to leverage private capital and expertise.

Apart from the tourism project, the authority is focusing on expanding green parks, widening roads, developing modern townships, improving traffic management and strengthening environmental conservation to develop Lucknow as a smart city while preserving its historical identity. The integrated measures are aimed at enhancing urban amenities for residents and visitors and aligning infrastructure with projected tourism growth. The LDA said planning will seek to balance development with conservation priorities.
