MoS Defence Sanjay Seth Graces ICSI Eastern Region Convocation

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) organised its Eastern Region Convocation on 7 December 2025 at the Gangotri Convention Centre in Ranchi, Jharkhand, marking an important milestone for newly qualified professionals entering the corporate governance ecosystem.

Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest, where 102 young professionals from the Eastern Region were formally awarded Certificates of Membership of the ICSI. The convocation celebrated the academic and professional achievements of the new members, who are set to play a critical role in strengthening governance and compliance frameworks across organisations.

Congratulating the inductees, Shri Sanjay Seth emphasised the growing importance of the profession in India’s evolving economic landscape. He said, “With start-ups accelerating India’s economic growth, Company Secretaries’ role in ensuring governance and compliance becomes all the more crucial. Your contribution will be integral to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Addressing the gathering, CS Dhananjay Shukla, President, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, highlighted the institute’s continued focus on strengthening the governance framework through progressive initiatives. “ICSI continues to strengthen the governance landscape through its progressive initiatives, and I am confident that as you step into the corporate world, these will empower you to contribute meaningfully to India’s growth trajectory,” he said.

CS Shukla outlined several key initiatives, including fee waiver schemes for Indian armed forces, paramilitary forces, Agniveers, families of martyrs, and students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He also highlighted academic and professional initiatives such as the two-year full-time MBA in Maritime Regulations and Compliance Management in collaboration with Gujarat Maritime University, joint certificate programmes with the National Institute of Securities Markets, and specialised courses focused on UAE business regulations. In addition, he detailed ICSI’s ESG-focused frameworks, including guiding principles on stewardship, climate change governance and stakeholder engagement.

CS Pawan G Chandak, Vice President, The ICSI, encouraged new members to uphold professional responsibility and leverage emerging opportunities. CS Rupanjana De, Council Member, The ICSI, and CS Anuj Saraswat, Chairman, Eastern India Regional Council of the ICSI, were also present at the convocation.
