The inspection recorded broken crash barriers and roadside littering at Rajiv Chowk and identified damaged footpaths at nine sites, maintenance needs for green verges at 12 sites and sanitation problems at 15 sites. In total 19 locations showed damaged or inadequate road safety infrastructure, and improper traffic channelisation at the Jharsa intersection was reported to cause motorist confusion.

Repairs between May and June included restoration of footpaths at seven locations and replacement of damaged crash barriers at 15 sites. Green verges at nine sites have been placed under daily monitoring and plantation, protection and painting works are under way. A contractor who requested anonymity said seasonal plantations had been completed on at least half the roadside patches at Rajiv Chowk and Jharsa and that further planting would be promoted.

The work formed part of a beautification drive under the Clean City Action Plan 2026 aimed at increasing green cover, removing encroachments, improving road safety and reducing emissions. A senior NHAI official who requested anonymity indicated that exit points and sector service roads around Signature Towers and Jharsa will undergo pedestrian and commuter safety revamps and that phased improvements will be rolled out. MCG sanitary teams have been directed to intensify monitoring.

The revamp complements a longer NH-48 improvement programme that began in 2021 when GMDA identified 106 junctions for pedestrian friendly upgrades. Since then the state and Centre have approved projects including a 64 km footpath revamp, four flyovers, nine foot overbridges and a six-lane elevated corridor along NH-48. Further upgrades are planned at Signature Towers, Jharsa, Sector 31 service roads, MDI Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk and Sheetla Mata Road.

Uttar Pradesh Accelerates National Highway Projects

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to review National Highway and road infrastructure projects. Mankhurd Maharashtra Nagar Flyover To Open By August 2027

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said the Mankhurd-Maharashtra Nagar flyover will be operational by August 2027, as part of measures to ease congestion in the eastern suburbs.
