NPC Aims for 11,769 MW Electricity Generation in Next 5 Years

The National Planning Commission (NPC) of Nepal has set an ambitious goal to generate 11,769 megawatts of electricity in the next five years, aiming for significant growth in the country's power generation capacity. By the fiscal year 2022/23, the plan envisions achieving approximately 2,767 megawatts, further emphasizing the commitment to providing universal electricity access to all citizens.

This strategic initiative by NPC aligns with broader efforts to enhance energy infrastructure and address the increasing demand for electricity in Nepal. The plan not only emphasizes capacity expansion but also underscores the importance of ensuring comprehensive access to electricity, reaching 100 per cent coverage.

As Nepal endeavours to boost its electricity generation, the NPC's targets signal a proactive approach to meet the energy needs of the nation. The plan is likely to involve a mix of renewable energy projects, hydropower development, and other initiatives aimed at diversifying the energy mix and promoting sustainability.

The NPC's outlined objectives will be closely monitored by stakeholders within the energy sector and the broader community as Nepal navigates the path towards achieving greater self-reliance in electricity generation and ensuring widespread access to this essential resource.
