Puducherry to get facelift under Swadesh Darshan Scheme

The Swadesh Darshan Scheme, a Central government scheme aimed at developing and promoting tourism, has arrived in Puducherry. Several tourism projects were recently inaugurated in the city that will give it a new look.

Projects upcoming in the city are: Renovation of Aayi Mandapam and dynamic lighting at Bharathi Park; development of the pilgrim facilities and the ghat along the river at Sri Gangai Varagha Natheeswarar Temple at Thirukanchi; development of a spiritual park at Thirunallar Karaikal; and development of Eden Beach at Chinna Veerampattinam.

These projects will add improved destinations and experiences to the already existing ones. After the completion of these new projects, more tourists are expected to visit Puducherry.

As per sources, several plans are in the pipeline to develop Puducherry as an iconic spiritual space. There are several spiritual tourism projects in line for Karaikal, Thirukanch and Yanam in the city.

Plans are also afoot to develop Franco-Tamil Villages in places like Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. Also, towns like Dubrayapet, Arikamedu, Veerampatinam, Kalapet and Yanam will all see development.
