Uttar Pradesh Approves 73,184 Houses Under PMAY-Urban 2.0

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the construction of 73,184 new houses under the beneficiary-led individual house construction component of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-Urban 2.0) in 137 urban local bodies, officials said on Monday. The approvals were sanctioned at a meeting of the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (SLSMC) constituted under PMAY-Urban 2.0 and chaired by Chief Secretary S P Goyal. With the latest approvals the total number of houses sanctioned under the beneficiary-led component in the state has reached 488,526.

Goyal directed officials to ensure that the sanctioned housing projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe while adhering to prescribed standards and maintaining construction quality. He also emphasised the need for timely delivery of housing facilities to beneficiaries and regular monitoring of project progress. The chief secretary instructed that progress reviews be conducted continuously to avoid unnecessary delays in implementation.

Principal Secretary for urban development, P Gurupasad, and other senior officials attended the meeting and were tasked with overseeing implementation, allocation of resources and compliance with technical specifications. The meeting record indicated that the approvals relate to the beneficiary-led individual house construction component, which focuses on providing assistance to eligible households to build or complete their own houses. Officials said the exercise aims to accelerate urban housing delivery and meet targeted goals under the national scheme.

State authorities will maintain monitoring mechanisms and periodic reviews to ensure timely disbursement and construction quality, and to address any bottlenecks arising during execution. The approvals will strengthen housing provision across the 137 municipal areas and contribute to broader urban development objectives in Uttar Pradesh. The SLSMC will continue to meet and review progress as part of its mandate to implement PMAY-Urban 2.0 effectively.
