Vedanta Launches Telemedicine Facility In Kalahandi

Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, recently inaugurated Vedanta Aluminium’s 24x7 Telemedicine Facility in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi district, in partnership with Tata 1mg. The initiative aims to improve access to timely specialist medical consultations for communities in remote villages, employees, families and business partners.

A dedicated Telemedicine Room has been set up at Vedanta Lanjigarh Hospital for assisted consultations. Beneficiaries can also access free audio and video consultations through the Tata 1mg App with nearly 30 specialist and super-specialist doctors. The service is expected to benefit more than 70,000 people across nearly 70 remote villages in Kalahandi and adjoining regions.

Mahaling said the facility is a meaningful step towards improving healthcare access in remote tribal and rural areas, where timely medical advice can make a major difference. Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO, Vedanta Alumina Business, said Odisha remains central to Vedanta’s growth journey and that the service strengthens last-mile access to quality healthcare.

Vedanta’s wider community initiatives include Project Aarogya for preventive healthcare and medical outreach, Project Sakhi for women’s entrepreneurship, Project Sangam for farmer livelihoods, and education initiatives such as DAV Vedanta International School and Nand Ghars. Across Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium’s community programmes have impacted more than 1 million people, supported by over Rs 5 billion invested in social development.

The company also highlighted its Lanjigarh alumina refinery, India’s largest and among the largest globally outside China, with a capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum. Vedanta Aluminium said it has invested over Rs 1 trillion in Odisha and supports more than 20,000 MSMEs and business partners, creating livelihood opportunities across its value chain.
