AAI considers options on acquiring land for building parking lot in Pune

Keeping up with its expansion plans for Pune airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is deliberating between two options to acquire a 5-acre plot. The land is located next to the airport’s parking number one and can be taken either through the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) or through a JV between the owners of the plot and AAI.

As reported, AAI had drawn up plans to construct a multi-level parking lot at the airport but has been on a standstill due to the unavailability of land in the area.

Although the final decision rests with the AAI headquarters, both the PMC and private landowners have shown a keen interest in the possible proposals. Provided there is adequate compensation, the owners are open to PMC acquiring the land. They are also, however, exploring the idea of giving out the land on rent to AAI.

Reportedly, once AAI gets hold of the plot, both parking number one and the existing cargo terminal will be shifted to the new land following which the construction of the multi-level parking lot will commence. This comes at a time when parking in the airport has become quite challenging after parking number two was converted into a pick-up point.
