The first airport-city project in West Bengal has been experiencing a stream of pitfalls – from land acquisition issues to allegations of corruption. The developers opted for Andal near Asansol-Durgapur in the state for the Rs 10,000 crore venture, which was objected to by Coal India since it infringed upon valuable coal reserves. Then, the state government announced the development of another airport about 40 km away at Asansol. However, the government has not yet proceeded with its announced plan.
