Here’s the big opportunity for private companies in Nagpur Airport

The Maharashtra Government is all ready to give Nagpur airport to the private hands. As reported, the government has been in talks with companies such as Boeing, Tatas and Reliance to seek investment in the aviation sector. Nagpur airport, currently operated by Mihan India (MIL), will invite RFPs from selected private players, qualified by the state government. Reports have revealed that companies likely to participate in the bid include Essel Infrastructure, GVK, GMR, Tata Realty and PNC Infrastructure. While no deadlines have been set, bids are expected to be floated by December this year. MIL is a JV between Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and Airport Authority of India (AAI). Both partners have contributed equity in the form of land and infrastructure in the JV. Now, both AAI and MADC are supposed to sign a lease deed for the assets with MIL. Post this, MIL can go ahead with privatisation. As reported, the process would be completed as AAI’s survey of land is expected to be finished soon.
