Phase-1 of Pune greenfield airport to be completed in 18-24 months

<span style="font-size: 13.3333px;">The Pune greenfield airport of Purander has received site clearance from the Steering Committee of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.</span>&nbsp;The airport, planned to be built in two phases, will consist of two independent parallel runways, 4 km in length. <p></p> <p>The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is the executing body for the project. </p> <p>The estimated cost of the greenfield international airport is likely to be around Rs 170 billion and will cover 2,400 hectare. MADC has finalised the land but it has not been acquired yet. A few more clearances will be required before tenders are floated. </p> <p>'Currently, it is difficult to comment on the timeline of the project as MADC has to apply for clearance in principle with the Ministry of Aviation,' says an MADC official. 'The clearances are essential and the land has to be in possession.' This clearance requires the techno-economic feasibility study, which is on at present. </p> <p>Activities related to land acquisition will start after the compensation packages are declared. When asked about the infrastructure, the official replied that apart from construction machineries required for the runways, there will be pre-engineered terminal buildings. </p> <p>This airport will reportedly be built on a PPP model on a par with Navi Mumbai Airport. The intent is to develop the Western Maharashtra and Marathwada region. </p>
