Rs 3.5 billion Shirdi Aiport commences operations
The airport is expected to serve a large number of people as the temple town observes a whopping 30,000 pilgrims every day; airport authorities expect to see about 12 per cent of this number to avail the airport services. The airport will not only make travel smoother for the pilgrims, but is also expected to enhance economic activity in the region. The airport reduces the earlier road-travel time of five hours between Mumbai and Shirdi to a mere 40 minutes of air-travel time.
Shirdi Aiport is the first ever in the country to be developed by a state government.
