15-Year Land Hurdle Cleared for Baner-Pashan Link Road

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has cleared a 15-year-old land acquisition hurdle for the proposed Baner-Pashan Link Road in Pune, declaring the final award and paying around Rs. 680 mn in compensation. The development is expected to provide relief to residents of Baner, Pashan, Sutarwadi and adjoining areas.

The 36 m-wide development plan road will pass through survey numbers 134 (part) to 138 and 140 in Pashan, Haveli taluka. Its development and construction had remained stalled for several years because the land required for the project had not been acquired.

The district administration declared the final award after completing the legal and financial procedures. PMC officials have now begun the process of taking physical possession of the land at the site, following completion of the acquisition process.

Municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the civic body had completed the land acquisition process and was taking physical possession. He added that the remaining work would be taken up on priority after possession had been completed.

Civic officials said coordination among the special land acquisition officer’s office, the district administration and PMC had helped resolve the long-pending issue. The remaining road work will be prioritised once the possession process is complete, with the link road intended to ease traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
