Agencies told to give a facelift to road medians

With initiative of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) medians on Hubli roads have finally got the much-needed facelift. To ease traffic movement in Hublic city's major roads HDMC had built medians on the roads seven years back through 10 private agencies on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis. The civic body said due to the medians in the city rate of road accidents has come down, but over time, the medians were damaged and people used to cross the roads through them. The electric wiring and hoardings also got damaged and posed a threat to vehicles and pedestrians. And also the medians were not maintained properly by agencies for the past couple of years. Observing this, recently HDMC served notices to these agencies to maintain the medians as per the MoU. Now HDMC held meetings with the agencies in the last week of November and they were told to repair and clean the medians before December 12.
