On 31 August 2026 in Mokokchung the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) extended full support to the Ao Senden's position on the proposed realignment of National Highway 702D, urging the Government of Nagaland to favourably consider Option-IV if a No Objection Certificate is not granted for Option-III, known locally as British Road or Chungliyimsen. The AKM said the final decision must be guided by long-term public interest, technical feasibility, road safety, economic efficiency and future connectivity rather than short-term considerations. It emphasised that proper feeder roads linking villages and rural communities to the national highway should receive equal priority to ensure benefits reach the grassroots. The advisory from AKM, conveyed in a press statement by the president and general secretary, characterised NH-702D as a strategic lifeline for Mokokchung and neighbouring districts and noted government records that identify the route as an approximately 85-km highway connecting Mokokchung with Mariani. The organisation reiterated solidarity with the apex tribal body and commended the Ao Senden for consistently pursuing the matter and placing wider public interests before the authorities. It warned that further delay in the long-pending project would impede regional development. AKM appealed to the Government of Nagaland and all concerned authorities for transparency, technical objectivity and timely action on the realignment decision and related approvals. It urged officials to balance technical studies with community access needs when finalising the alignment and to ensure that design choices incorporate road safety and economic efficiency. The association also requested that feeder road plans be integrated into the broader project timeline and funding framework. The statement indicated that a prompt and objective resolution would support improved connectivity, foster economic activity and enhance road safety for residents along the corridor. AKM made clear that the project should be pursued as a matter of public utility rather than political expediency. Stakeholders were called upon to act with urgency to prevent further postponement of works that are important for the people and the region.
