Chengalpattu Collector M Veerappan has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to open the Pukkathurai flyover to the public from October 16 and complete the Padalam flyover before Deepavali. The Pukkathurai project is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 210 mn, while the Padalam flyover is being built at a cost of Rs. 215 mn.

Veerappan inspected the Paranur toll plaza, Irungunrampalli, the Palar bridge, Pukkathurai and Padalam on Wednesday ahead of the Ayudha Pooja festival. The inspection was conducted to review measures aimed at easing traffic congestion and preventing disruptions on key stretches in Chengalpattu district.

At Paranur toll plaza, which is prone to congestion on the national highways, the Collector instructed NHAI officials to repair the road and ensure adequate lighting for the smooth movement of vehicles. He also directed officials to remove soil deposits and waste along roads near Irungunrampalli and the Palar bridge, and to undertake necessary repairs.

During his inspection of the Pukkathurai flyover, Veerappan asked the NHAI project director to expedite the remaining work and make arrangements for opening the structure to traffic from October 16. He also reviewed the Pukkathurai junction and the service roads near the national highway at Padalam.

At Padalam, the Collector directed officials to remove encroachments that were obstructing traffic and repair damaged sections of the roads. After inspecting the flyover under construction there, he instructed the NHAI project director to accelerate the work and meet the deadline before Deepavali.

NHAI Chengalpattu project director M S Chaithanya, Madurantakam Revenue Divisional Officer Narendra, Chengalpattu Deputy Superintendent of Police T Veerakumar and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation managing director Sridharan accompanied the Collector. Officials from various departments and traffic police personnel also participated in the inspection.
