Gadkari Announces Rs. 5 tn Road Projects for Bihar

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said road infrastructure projects worth around Rs. 3.88 tn are planned in Bihar, with the Centre targeting completion of road works worth nearly Rs. 5 tn in the state by the end of the current term. He made the announcement at the Rising Bihar Investor Summit 2026 in Patna.

Projects covering around 2,910 km and costing nearly Rs. 330 bn have been completed or incurred expenditure in Bihar, while work is under way on another 1,878 km involving about Rs. 651 bn. Proposed projects account for an estimated investment of nearly Rs. 3.25 tn. The national highway network in the state has expanded from around 4,615 km in 2014 to nearly 6,500 km.

Among the major projects is the 440-km Ram-Janki Marg, estimated to cost Rs. 54.4 bn, with 27 per cent of work completed and completion targeted for November 2028. Projects worth around Rs. 220 bn are also being undertaken along a corridor connected with sites associated with Lord Buddha, with about 90 per cent of work completed.

The proposed Gorakhpur-Siliguri High-Speed Corridor will cover around 526 km, including nearly 410 km in Bihar, and is estimated to cost Rs. 720 bn. Bihar’s proposed investment is approximately Rs. 520 bn. Other projects include the 400-km Patna-Purnea Greenfield Expressway, the 218-km Buxar-Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor costing Rs. 100 bn, and the 13.4-km Anisabad-Didarganj project estimated at Rs. 85 bn.

The Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Corridor, costing around Rs. 320 bn, is about 35 per cent complete, while the proposed 550-km Raxaul-Haldia Corridor is estimated at Rs. 452 bn, with around Rs. 260 bn proposed for Bihar. Gadkari also highlighted the 162-km Patna Ring Road, estimated at Rs. 102 bn, saying the wider network could reduce travel and logistics costs, improve market access and support investment, industry and employment.
