Haryana To Acquire 1,150 Acres For Sector Roads In Gurugram

The Haryana government plans to acquire 1,150 acres to construct long-pending 24-metre-wide internal sector roads across Gurugram, the Hindustan Times reported. The move targets sectors 58 to 115 where absence of planned roads has left many housing societies reliant on narrow village streets and has impeded urban growth.

The proposal was prepared by the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) after a review of budget implementation. Additional Chief Secretary of DTCP Anurag Agarwal instructed the department to prioritise the plan and present a comprehensive acquisition strategy that explores financial sustainability.

As part of the strategy the government proposes acquiring commercial land alongside the road corridors so parcels can later be auctioned and proceeds used to offset acquisition costs. Officials noted the acquisitions will mainly involve unlicensed land and recommended that the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) initially undertake purchases with expenditure reimbursed through external development charges.

The issue stems from the Gurgaon-Manesar Master Plan 2031, which placed responsibility for constructing 24-metre internal roads on private developers, but several stretches remain incomplete due to ownership disputes and litigation. Residents have reported difficulty accessing complexes and securing basic civic services, while extension of utilities and fresh development approvals have been delayed. The acquisitions are intended to unlock stalled development by providing planned access and enabling utilities to be extended.
