Senior bureaucrat Alka Upadhyaya appointed as new NHAI Chairperson

Senior bureaucrat Alka Upadhyaya has been selected as the chairperson of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as part of a significant bureaucratic reshuffle induced by the Centre.

Upadhyaya, a 1990-batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, is presently the Additional Secretary, Department of Rural Development.

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sanjay Bandopadhyay, has been designated chairman, Inland Waterways Authority of India, as per the Personnel Ministry order.

Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dharmendra S Gangwar, will be the Secretary, Department of Border Management, and Sundeep Kumar Nayak has been elected as the Director-General, National Productivity Council, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.

Upma Srivastava, a 1988-batch IAS officer of Sikkim cadre, has been appointed as the Secretary, National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Juthika Patankar, has been named Secretary, Central Information Commission.

Special Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Anita Praveen, will be elected as Special Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

She will be appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries upon the superannuation of Pushpa Subramanyam next month-end.

Director-General, Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Amit Yadav, has been appointed as the Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, the order said.

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ashish Srivastava, has been named Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat.

Mission Director, National Water Mission, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, G Asok Kumar, will be appointed as the Director-General, National Mission for Clean Ganga.

Neelam Shammi Rao has been named Central Provident Fund Commissioner, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, Amit Agrawal will be appointed as the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Deepti Umashankar as the Establishment Officer & Additional Secretary, Department of Personnel & Training.

Additional Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Vivek Aggarwal, has been named Additional Secretary, Department of Revenue.

Joint Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Hari Ranjan Rao, will be named Additional Secretary, Department of Telecommunications.

Shyamal Misra, a 1996-batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, has been named Joint Secretary, Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs. He is presently the Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce.

VECV sales rise 6.9% in April 2026

VE Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, recorded sales of 7,318 units in April 2026, compared to 6,846 units in April 2025, registering 6.9 per cent growth.
