State moves to tap potash deposits, help cut imports
Despite Rajasthan sitting on at least 2,400 mt of potash reserves, around four times of the global deposits, the country continues to import almost all of the mineral used in fertilisers. The state government has now finally prepared a roadmap to change this situation, and will soon sign a tripartite memorandum involving the Mines Department, state PSU RSMML and Centre’s Mining Exploration Corporation (MECL) to carry out an economic feasibility survey for mining of potash blocks. MECL will undertake the study, which will help in value discovery.
