Telangana Secures Centre's Clearances for Highway Projects and Ropeways

Telangana has secured central clearances for several highway, bridge and ropeway projects following a meeting between State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. The state also announced a welfare package for Singareni Collieries workers covering employment, housing and healthcare measures.

The Centre approved a 6 km double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar to ease traffic moving out of Hyderabad towards Vijayawada. It also cleared a proposal to lay the foundation stone for a cable bridge across the Krishna River on NH 167K, which is intended to improve connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and support regional trade and tourism.

For NH 765, the Hyderabad-Srisailam route, Gadkari directed central officials to prepare a revised Detailed Project Report for an elevated corridor through forest areas. Telangana also received approval for five ropeway projects under the central Parvatmala scheme. The Union ministry gave a positive response to the proposed Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Expressway and approved three railway overbridges under the Setu Bandhan scheme.

Komatireddy sought Central Road and Infrastructure Fund allocations for 34 critical road projects in the state. The Centre also agreed to consider upgrading several state highways to National Highway status, including the route linking Pullur, Alampur, Jatrapolu, Pentlavelli, Kollapur, Lingala, Achampet, Dindi, Devarakonda, Mallepally and Nalgonda.

Gadkari accepted Komatireddy's invitation to attend the 73rd Indian Road Congress in Hyderabad. The event is scheduled from November 19 to 22 and is expected to bring together road-sector officials and specialists. The clearances cover projects at different stages, including approved works, proposals requiring revised planning documents and routes awaiting further consideration by the Centre.
