Thakurli Flyover Clears Hurdle as 82 Residents Relocate

The Thakurli flyover project in Kalyan-Dombivli has moved forward with the relocation process for 82 affected residents beginning on Monday. Their homes lie along the alignment of the proposed elevated road connecting Thakurli railway crossing with Mhasoba Chowk, according to a report in Loksatta – Thane.

The project has faced delays for several years because buildings stood along the proposed route. Once all 82 residents vacate their homes, the affected structures can be removed, allowing work on the next stage of the elevated road to proceed. The relocation is therefore an important administrative step, although physical construction on the affected sections has not yet begun.

The planned route is intended to ease recurring congestion around Thakurli railway station, Mhasoba Chowk and adjoining roads. Traffic pressure has increased with the growth of Thakurli and the rising number of vehicles using its internal road network. Conditions are particularly difficult during morning and evening peak periods, when the station area and nearby roads experience heavy movement.

The elevated road is planned to connect Thakurli railway crossing with Mhasoba Chowk and provide an alternative route through an area where existing road capacity is under pressure. It is expected to improve movement between Thakurli, Dombivli and Kalyan. The project forms part of wider efforts to strengthen transport infrastructure in Kalyan-Dombivli through roads, flyovers, elevated corridors and other civic works.

According to the report, MP Dr Shrikant Shinde has pursued the project and held discussions at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority level. Funding and the tender process have also reportedly gained momentum. The immediate priorities are to complete the relocation of all 82 residents and remove the structures along the alignment, after which work on the relevant sections can accelerate.

They have a decision-latency problem. It takes about 8.7 hours to detect a disruption and more than 40 more to understand its impact, all before anyone acts. Meanwhile, disruption costs the global economy an estimated $184 billion a year.Enterprises already own excellent systems of record. What they lack is a system of action.
